LOS ANGELES -- TV refuses to be outdone by movies. It's true in the current culture and it's true on Twitter.

So we went to the social media research film and digital media consultancy Fizziology to find out which TV shows got the most mentions -- and to divine whatever else they could. They're good at that.

  • Doctor Who, the oldest show in the top 20, premiered on Nov. 23, 1963 while the most recent (Stranger Things) debuted on July 15, 2016.

  • Shondaland shows didn’t appear in the top 20, and Scandal saw the least of that showrunner's stable of hits. Grey's Anatomy had 2,673 mentions, HTGAWM came in with 1,458 and Scandal got 1,251.

  • Overall, newer shows (that premiered within the last decade) saw more volume than classics. This was the opposite trend we saw in film, in which just 13% of the 15 most mentioned #Fav7Films came out in the past 10 years (compared to 53% of the top 15 TV shows).

  • UK Takeover: Dr. Who and Sherlock both appeared in the top 20 most mentioned shows (with 3.6K and 4K mentions, respectively) and Orphan Black (2.7K) and Downton Abby (521) were also strongly represented.

  • Teen-friendly shows dominated the overall conversation: Pretty Little Liars, Teen Wolf, Supernatural and Gossip Girl all appeared in the top 20 shows. MTV's Scream just missed the top 20 shows and had 2,644 mentions (ahead of critically acclaimed shows like Mad Men, with 2,122 mentions, and The X-Files, with 2,159 mentions).

  • Top Nostalgic Millennial shows: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1,078 mentions), Boy Meets World (655), Full House (607), Freaks and Geeks (606).

  • Top Classic Shows: Cheers (757), The Twilight Zone (687), Golden Girls (658), MASH (338), I Love Lucy (374), The Mary Tyler Moore Show (137)

  • The Bachelor saw 10% more mentions than UnREAL.

  • Top Animated Shows: The Simpsons (3,154), South Park (2,018), Family Guy (1,916), Rick and Morty (1,232), Futurama (987).
