'Two Point Campus' free Valentine's Day update looks like an explosion at the sex bed factory

Love is in the air, and the classrooms, and the dorms.

Two Point Campus introduced me to the concept of a communal campus sex bed last year, and I have not known a moment's peace since. Now Mashable can exclusively reveal that the university management game is doubling down, releasing a free Valentine's Day update which adds a new Challenge mode, an interloping Cupid, and a collection of heart-themed items to help your students spread the love. It's as though the sex bed is sending out spores.

Available from today, Two Point Campus' Valentine's Day update includes various bright pink objects to adorn your students' weird den of sin, such as wallpaper, balloons, bouquets, and a big ol' Tunnel of Love, complete with swan-shaped boats.

Installing an amusement park ride for smooching seems like a misallocation of school resources, but I suppose falling in love is a kind of education.

Two Point Campus' Double Jump boning bed remains unchanged, still as pink, heart-adorned, and disturbing as ever — both a blessing and a curse. However, single beds can now use a heart print duvet to remind solo sleepers of how lonely they are, so the giant designated sex bed won't look so out of place.

Some of Two Point Campus' new items will give students a romance buff, helping them to strengthen their relationships. Others are merely decorative — though, like other items, students may request them to fulfil personal goals. It's up to you whether you want to help them achieve their weird interior decorating dreams.

"We also have a super-secret item that can be unlocked by taking part in the next Community Challenge," design director Ben Huskins told Mashable via email. "Players will work together to pool their points in the new Challenge Mode to get their hands on a cool mystery Valentine’s item."

Added in this new update, Two Point Campus' Challenge Mode can be found in the main menu and is separate from the primary Campaign. In it, levels you've already played in the main Campaign will be remixed with a seasonal theme, in this case Valentine's Day.

"In the L-Bomb it’s all about impressing Cupid with your well-run campus so he’ll leave you Love Bombs," said Huskins, speaking on the Campaign Mode. "[Y]ou can use [Love Bombs] to help romance bloom between your students, which will then earn you all-important love points to rack up an impressive score you can use as bragging rights."

Cupid is a new character also introduced in Two Point Campus' Valentine's Day update, and can easily be identified by his pink bow, helmet, bow tie, and what appears to be heart-themed pyjamas. It is certainly a fashion choice.

Unlike other visitors, Cupid doesn't ask permission before just showing up on campus and judging you. Players will have to ensure their students are happy and achieve good academic results in order to impress him, at which point he will give you a Love Bomb.

"The Love Bombs he then rewards you with can be strategically placed to put students in a romantic mood, making them want to develop their romantic relationships, and help you earn Challenge points," Huskins said.

This all seems like a very big distraction from students' academic studies, but whatever makes them happy I guess.

The Valentine’s Event will deck out Two Point Campus' menu in seasonal theming from Feb. 9 to 20, though the new content will stick around for you to access whenever you feel like decking out your educational institution with garish pink hearts.

Just remember to stock up your classrooms before blowing all your cash on heart-shaped rugs, and make sure your Medical Office is well-staffed. I don't think Two Point Campus has STIs, but better safe than sorry. It is a university, after all.

Two Point Campus is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. It's also free to play until Feb. 13, in case you aren't ready for a commitment.
