$3.37.

That's the meager median wage Uber and Lyft drivers make per hour, according to a paper published by MIT's Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research that surveyed over 1,000 drivers in the United States.

The study made headlines this week, revealing that the cost of insurance, fuel, and car maintenance all played a major impact on why those who drive for ride-share companies do not meet minimum wage.

Despite the compelling findings, Uber's CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is refuting the study's results himself, on Twitter of all places.

"MIT = Mathematically Incompetent Theories (at least as it pertains to ride-sharing)," Khosrowshahi tweeted, before linking to a report from Uber's chief economist that compiles all the positive surveys and studies done by the likes of The Rideshare Guy, Princeton, and Stanford.

Khosrowshahi's petty tweet shutting down the MIT study prompted plenty of questions and backlash on Twitter, many calling him out for the unprofessional response.

If MIT is full of mathematical incompetence these days, well, maybe we can all start getting around on flying pigs instead of in the cars of underpaid rideshare drivers.
