Making sure your daughter's Uber ride went as planned just got a lot easier.

On Tuesday, Uber launched a new feature called Trip Tracker, enabling users to track their family members' rides with the service.

The Trip Tracker is part of another Uber feature called Family Profiles, which lets you add other riders to a joint family profile, with rides billed to the profile organizer. The people in your profile don't necessarily have to be a part of your family, but they do have to accept your invitation to the profile.

The idea behind the feature is to track your family members in real time. Once someone in your Family Profile requests a ride, you'll be notified with the option to track the ride. Then, you'll be able to follow the ride's progress on the map inside the Uber app (see below).

Initially launched only in the U.S., Family Profiles and subsequently Trip Tracker are now available in more than 60 markets worldwide according to TechCrunch, but not all places where Uber is present (for example, Croatia is currently not included).

Update: Uber reached out to Mashable Wednesday, saying the feature is now available to all riders globally. Interestingly, Family Profiles still aren't available in Croatia.

The Trip Tracker is a welcome safety-related feature from Uber, which has often been under fire for not doing enough to make sure its customers are safe. In April, Uber agreed to pay $10 million to settle California prosecutors' allegations it misled customers about the background checks it performs on drivers. Read more about Uber and safety here.
