It's Britain's hottest day of the year and people simply can't cope

LONDON -- Complaining about the weather is a time-honoured British tradition.

Normally we like to moan that it's too rainy or too cold, but for one or two golden weeks every year -- the slender, fleeting window that we call summer -- things go the other way.

On Tuesday, temperatures in Britain reached the early-to-mid 30s. It was the hottest day of the year. A few hours into the morning and #ukheatwave, #scorchio and #hottestdayoftheyear were already trending on social media.

Twitter quickly went into meltdown.

Still, there were a few people who remained determined not to complain.

After all, let's be honest -- the heat probably won't stick around for long.
