Actor Verne Troyer died on Saturday at the age of 49.

Troyer was perhaps most famous for his roles in the Austin Powers film series, where he played Dr. Evil henchman Mini-Me. An Instagram post to his official account broke the sad news.

"Verne was an extremely caring individual," read the post. "He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh. Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible."

The circumstances of his passing are as of yet unclear, though according to People he had in the past struggled with alcohol addition.

"Even though his stature was small and his parents often wondered if he’d be able to reach up and open doors on his own in his life, he went on to open more doors for himself and others than anyone could have imagined," noted the Instagram post.

The post also alludes to a struggle with depression, but does not explicitly say Verne died by suicide.

"Depression and Suicide are very serious issues," the statement reads. "You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside. Be kind to one another. And always know, it’s never too late to reach out to someone for help."

Troyer's Austin Powers pal Mike Myers had this to say in a statement: "Verne was the consummate professional and a beacon of positivity for those of us who had the honor of working with him. It is a sad day, but I hope he is in a better place. He will be greatly missed."
