From a distance, filmmakers seem to live a pretty magical life, free to pack up and head off to far-flung locales and bring their creative visions to life. Visual artist and director Shane Griffin loves that part of his job, of course, but he also knows the reality of filmmaking is a little different: much of the creative grind happens in post-production. After the shoot wraps, the work goes on, from uploading massive amounts of footage, to editing and culling through material, to correcting audio and color. This work might not be as glamorous, but it’s just as important.

That’s where a real post-production workhorse comes in handy, one that can handle all of those demands without lag-time or storage issues. The HP Z4 desktop is up for the job. Shane became a Z by HP Ambassador after trying the HP Z4, and it’s no mystery why. With its high-performance processor options and dual extreme graphics support, the Z4 gives you everything you need for the smoothest post-production workflow ever.

Customized processing power

HP’s best-selling workhorse includes options for Intel® Xeon® W or Core™ X processors. From there, creatives can configure custom specs to further personalize their rig. The HP Z31x DreamColor Studio Display is a popular choice for video effects artists.

Graphics gone wild

NVIDIA Quadro® RTX 6000 graphics accelerate your intensive design, rendering, and video workflows. Working post on an eight-hour doc series? No problem. 22 TB storage and 256 GB memory gives you lightning-fast performance on heavy compute designs and video editing.

Accelerated pro apps

The Z4’s high-frequency processing, multiple cores, and powerful graphics will also accelerate the use of pro apps, allowing seamless transitions from single-threaded tasks to multi-threaded ones, such as encoding and decoding video and audio streams. It races through Adobe Premier Pro and After Effects, as well as Autodesk 3ds Max and Maya. Creators can ingest files, playback content, and edit in real-time, even when wrestling with raw 4K and 8K footage.

Enhanced creative execution

Of course the gear that video professionals shoot with is important — but the tech tools used in post-production are arguably even more important in today’s digital world. With demands for 8K footage, 360 video, and VR on the rise, processing power is just as important as graphics in a post workhorse.

Having a creative vision is one thing, but being able to execute on that vision — on deadline — means having the right tech tools. The HP Z4 Desktop is one horse that creative professionals will want in their stable. See Shane Griffith’s story here and check out more info on HP’s Creative Pros site.
