Cox, who was MP for Batley and Spen, in West Yorkshire, was holding a surgery session for local constituents at the local library when she was shot twice and stabbed. She was rushed to Leeds hospital by air ambulance and she was pronounced dead at 1:48 p.m.

The 52-year-old attacker, named locally as Tommy Mair, was arrested.
