Watermelons are the trendy Instagram accessory of summer 2017
Flamingos are old hat. For this summer's most coveted accessory, you need not look any further than your fruit bowl.
The watermelon trend is exploding all over Instagram right now, and it's a refreshing -- if not slightly odd -- change from the tired old unicorns in our feed.
Fashion journalist Ana Kinsella spotted the proliferation of watermelons on Instagram, declaring it the emblem of summer 2017, rather akin to 2016's flamingo.

A simple hashtag search on Instagram will throw up just over 4 million photos of a variety of different ways to lean into the summer emblem. From pool floats to watermelon lip-looks, here are just a few of the ways Instagrammers are smashing the trend.
Some influencers have taken to fashioning actual slices of the fruit as accessories.
Others are toting watermelon-themed handbags, as demonstrated by Man Repeller's Leandra Medine.
Never mind #hotdoglegs, it's all about watermelon legs now.
People are even matching their make-up to the colourful fruit.
Of course, your summer pool shots also need to feature the watermelon emblem.
And, taking the trend to whole new heights are people fashioning dresses out of slices of watermelon. So very inventive!
What a tasty trend!
