There were plenty of memorable characters in Westworld Season 1 -- but one guest star made a huge impression on viewers despite only appearing in a few scenes, and it looks like the showrunners were paying attention.

Louis Herthum, who played Peter Abernathy -- the "father" of Evan Rachel Wood's Dolores -- in Season 1, has been promoted to series regular status for Season 2, Mashable has confirmed.

Herthum delivered a powerhouse performance in the Season 1 premiere, transitioning from a loving father to a malfunctioning android -- complete with a chilling monologue that threatened vengeance and destruction against his creators -- which set the tone for the rest of the season and the hosts' gradual journey towards self-awareness.

Later in the season, after Peter was decommissioned, Charlotte Hale (Tessa Thompson) attempted to upload 35 years' worth of stolen park data into the host in order to sneak him out of Westworld on the monorail -- but this plan was derailed by the hosts' uprising. Where is Peter now, and how much does he know? That's a mystery for Season 2.

Herthum has appeared in countless TV and film projects over his decades-long career, including Longmire, True Blood and Murder, She Wrote, but Westworld will mark the 60-year-old's first series regular role.

He'll next appear on the big screen alongside Johnny Depp and Forest Whitaker in LAbyrinth, which centers around the murders of Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG, and horror film Cadaver, with Stana Katic and Shay Mitchell.

The news was first reported by Deadline, which also reported that another memorable host, Talulah Riley's Angela (who welcomed Jimmi Simpson's William into the park in Episode 2 before popping up later to taunt Teddy) will also be around as a series regular next season.

Westworld Season 2 will premiere on HBO in 2018.
