Unfortunate whale watchers fail to notice the leap of a lifetime

You'd think a 40-ton whale would be hard to miss, but anything is possible.

Whale watchers near Sydney, Australia, caused giggles 'round the internet on Tuesday when they failed to notice a humpback whale making a magnificent jump directly to the boat's left.

Why? Because they were all looking to the right.

Whale Watching Sydney confirmed the goof on its Facebook page: "Yes, everyone on that boat is looking the wrong way, hehe :)."

Luckily, photographer JP Goodridge was nearby to capture both the magnificence and the hilarity.

And, of course, the commenters went wild.
