Seriously, where the heck is Apple's AirPower charger?

Stop playing with my heart, Apple.

If you carry around more than one Apple product, you might be asking yourself when the heck the company's first wireless charging pad, AirPower, will be available for purchase.

Well, at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) this week, we learned that even after nine months since it was announced, Airpower still doesn't have a release date or price — in fact, it wasn't even mentioned during the keynote presentation.

The company's first wireless charging pad was unveiled alongside the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X in September 2017 at a special press event. The charging station was billed as the only one that could wirelessly charge an iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods all at once. And to its credit, Apple did say it was a future product that would launch in 2018.

But we are now halfway through the year, and the only sign of the charging pad is a small "Available in 2018" on the company's website. We figured we might learn a little more at WWDC this year, but turns out, we were wrong.

So what happened?

We reached out to Apple for clarification on the issue, but the company did not respond as of press time; however, Apple does seem to be following a recent trend, where it hypes up a new product before its launch and then fails to deliver the product on time. For example, its new AirPod earphones were delayed by about three months, its HomePod smart speaker was also delayed by about three months, and now the AirPower charger launch is being unusually prolonged.

The build up is just getting silly at this point. Wireless charging isn't even an entirely new product category, and there are already plenty of other alternatives on the market. It's hard to imagine that one of the world's most valuable companies can't figure out how to build a wireless charging station. All this being said, I do believe that Apple can afford hold out for many more months, and people will still show up in droves to buy it.

But it raises the question, "Should you wait to buy Apple's AirPower wireless charger?" The short answer is "no," and here's why: We still don't know the price of this thing, and it won't even work with every product out of the box. For example, you'll need a new AirPods case if you want to wirelessly charge those, since the current case doesn't support wireless charging. Yeesh. Isn't this charging pad supposed to make life easier?

The timeline for this launch appears to be growing longer and longer, and we're now starting to think that it will likely show up in the fall, when Apple typically releases new hardware. But that means we'll be about halfway through the product life cycle of the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X -- meaning that the wireless charging capabilities of those phones will barely be supported by Apple product.

So Apple, while Memojis can hold me over a bit, I need this question answered: Where the heck is my AirPower charging station?!
