This old poem about plums has been turned into a hilariously nerdy meme

"HEY I just met you and this is crazy but the plums in the icebox"

Ever wondered what happens when you cross "Mambo Number 5" with William Carlos Williams' poem about eating some plums? Of course you have!

Well, poetry nerds have gone and given "This Is Just To Say" the remix treatment, yielding a veritable harvest of memes all about those delicious, sweet, and cold plums.

In case you'd forgotten about the damn plums being stolen from the icebox because they were so irresistible, here's a little reminder to jog your memory:

I have eaten the plums that were in the icebox and which you were probably saving for breakfast Forgive me they were delicious so sweet and so cold

The internet has worked its magic to ensure this poem will never be forgotten—it's now been fully crystallised in meme form for all eternity.

Those of you who don't take kindly to literary blasphemy, look away now: you're about to witness some hardcore memeing.

The remix treatment appears to have begun with none other than The Killers' "Mr. Brightside." It actually works pretty well.

It was about time somebody gave "Mambo Number Five" a poetic spin, and this version is heaps better than the original. "A little bit of cold plums here I am." Indeed.

Carly Rae Jepson's "Call Me Maybe" featured, and we're really glad about that.

"Ice Ice Baby" shall henceforth be known as "Ice Box Baby."

This remix of Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know" is here to remind us all about the mess made when those plums were eaten.

Suggested addition: "Every time I scratch my nails down someone else's plums, I hope you feel it."

Smash Mouth's "All Star" also featured.

Question is: how would William Carlos Williams feel if he knew his poem was a giant meme now?

Forgive us?
