A well-planned surprise can be an absolute joy. A surprise birthday party? So much fun! An unexpected gift? Yes, please! A surprise pigeon? Hard pass.

Following an altercation with employees at a Social Security Administration office in Virginia on Tuesday, a woman named Laurie Weaver struck a security guard on his head with a fanny pack containing a small pigeon, before threatening him with a knife, according to the Washington Post.

The police were called and shortly after they arrived, they discovered the pigeon stowed away in Weaver's fanny pack. We can only imagine their surprise.

Thankfully no one, including the pigeon, was harmed. Weaver was arrested and has since been charged with attempted unlawful wounding, police told the Post. It's also very possible she'll face charges regarding the bird.

The pigeon was taken to a local animal shelter, and will be "returned to the wild" as per a police statement obtained by the Post.

Happy to hear the pigeon will soon be fleeing the coop — hopefully it'll steer clear of all fanny packs in the future.
