LONDON -- People in 160 cities, in 60 countries around the world are making history this weekend as they take to the streets in one of the largest co-ordinated acts of protest in recent years: the Women's March.

Ahead of the marches women are tweeting photos of their shoes and sharing their reasons for standing in solidarity with those marching on Washington D.C.

People are tweeting using the #MarchingShoes hashtag to show the shoes they'll be donning as they attend marches across the world.

Some women will be attending the marches with their children.

Some expectant mothers write that they are attending on behalf of their unborn children.

Women are marching with family members in mind.

And others explain that they are marching as allies to those fighting for human rights and equality.

Women are also attending to make important points about consent and sexual violence.

Some women are attending marches to add their voice to a collective "roar".
