Gal Gadot non-response to James Cameron's bad 'Wonder Woman' take was the perfect answer

James Cameron had thoughts on Wonder Woman, and he wasn't been shy about sharing them. But if Wonder Woman herself, Gal Gadot, had any thoughts on James Cameron in return, she's been keeping them to herself.

Turns out there's a reason for that.

Over the summer, Cameron blasted the "self-congratulatory back-patting" surrounding Wonder Woman, calling the character an "objectified icon" who represented "a step backwards."

You know, unlike Sarah Connor, the "strong" and "troubled" heroine of Terminator 2 – which, hey, just so happened to be returning to theaters as a 3D rerelease right around the time Cameron gave the interview. Check your local listings!

As expected, he got some strong blowback. Original Wonder Woman Lynda Carter decried his "thuggish jabs," while Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins pointed out that female characters shouldn't "have to always be hard, tough and troubled to be strong."

Gadot, however, stayed out of the conversation – until this week's interview with Entertainment Weekly. Asked why she stayed quiet, Gadot replied:

Because I didn’t want to give him the stage. First of all, I’m a big fan of his work. His movies are great. He was very innovative in many things that he did, and I’ve got nothing but great things to say about the creative and professional side of his work. When it happened, the timing of when it happened, he was promoting another movie of his. It was like he was looking for publicity and I just didn’t want to give him the stage.

In other words, he was trying to get attention, and she didn't feel like giving him any. Of course, Gadot being the g.d. professional that she is, couches her explanation in pleasant compliments and crisp, polite language. But there's no mistaking her meaning.

In its own way, then, Gadot's non-response was the perfect response. Because as much as we agree with everyone who spoke up to defend Wonder Woman against Cameron, Gadot makes a good point, too: Why let him drive the conversation in the first place?
