'Wonder Woman' U.K. premiere canceled after Manchester tragedy

Following the attack in Manchester earlier this week, Warner Bros. has decided to cancel the London premiere of Wonder Woman. The event was to have taken place on Wednesday, May 31.

The studio issued a statement announcing the decision:

Our thoughts are with those affected by the recent tragedy in the UK. In light of the current situation, we will not be proceeding with our plans for the Wonder Woman premiere and junket activities in London.

Director Patty Jenkins and stars Gal Gadot, Chris Pine, and Robin Wright had all been slated to attend the U.K. premiere.

On Monday, May 22, an explosion killed 22 people and injured dozens more during an Ariana Grande concert at the Manchester arena. The incident is being treated as a terrorist attack, and the terror threat level in the U.K. has been raised to "critical."

As noted by The Los Angeles Times, a similar situation befell the studio last year when Brussels was rocked by terrorist attacks just hours before the London premiere of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. That time, however, Warner Bros. went ahead with the event.

Meanwhile, Wonder Woman's world premiere will proceed as planned on Thursday, May 25 in Los Angeles. The following week, Wonder Woman will hit U.K. theaters June 1 and U.S. theaters June 2.
