Here are the worst tweets of World Emoji Day

Brands gonna brand.

Unfortunately, Tuesday is World Emoji Day.

If the absolute curse of The Emoji Movie wasn't enough to make you lose hope in humanity, knowing there is an entire day dedicated to emoji might.

Here are the worst examples of exploiting emoji for branded tweets.

Various U.S. defense forces:

The Navy's text bubble screenshot makes no sense. Who responds to texts with a smiley face, an angry face, and a side eye? Everybody knows the side eye is strictly reserved for booty calls (when the eggplant is just too forward) and making terrible puns.

The U.S. Department of Defense kicked off World Emoji Day with an animoji video, which included painfully awkward howling from an animoji dog, a sad monkey who can't find bananas, and a four-years-too-late "What does the fox say?" reference.

This one is actually not as bad as it could have been. Props to the U.S. Marines for keeping it simple. It still seems wrong for a government institution to use emojis in any context, though.

The U.S. Army singlehandedly created the worst image on Twitter, and objectively the most terrible bastardization of an emoji: The cheerful grimace conveys both elation and despair, all under one illustrated camo helmet.

The U.S. Department of Education:

The DOE's emoji-laden tweet seems innocuous, but it leaves a sour taste in your mouth once you remember the department is led by Betsy DeVos. The real life Delores Umbridge rolled back guidelines for campuses to handle sexual assault complaints, rescinded civil rights protections for trans students, and decided not to consider guns in a school safety commission.

The National Rifle Association

Doesn't the NRA know that replacing words with emojis is so 2008?

Planned Parenthood Action

Although the Planned Parenthood Action Fund fights for human rights, it's still guilty of one crime against humanity: replacing words with emojis.

The March for Life

The March for Life was an anti-choice demonstration in response to the Women's March. Also, this tweet just doesn't add up.

Steve Harvey

Steve, that's not even an emoji.

The New York Yankees

There is just a lot going on in this photoset. Is ... is he about to hit that laughing emoji?

Monsanto

Why.

The Emoji Movie

There's nothing inherently wrong with this cute little video, but the fact that it's from The Emoji Movie, a blight on society as a whole, makes it terrible. There is just something so painful about the fact that The Emoji Movie still has an active social media presence.

OK, but there are at least a few accounts celebrating World Emoji Day the right way.

Dolly Parton

On this great day, Dolly Parton blessed our timelines with this image, in case you forgot her name. Thank you, DOLLY.

NASA Goddard Images

This is freaking adorable. You're right, NASA, "Space" is always inspiring!

Angryman

This account only tweets the angry face emoji, and that's beautiful. What a mood.

Happy World Emoji Day! Please celebrate responsibly, and for everyone's sake, keep your emoji use reasonable.
