Turns out, the Carolina Reaper wasn't quite devilish enough. There's a new hottest pepper in town -- allegedly, at least -- and it's called Pepper X.

This particular mouth destroyer was created by Ed Currie, who founded the appropriately-named Puckerbutt Pepper Company. He's also responsible for the Reaper, which held the title of world's hottest pepper (at 1.5 million Scoville units) until it was bested by Dragon's Breath (2.48 Scoville units) in May.

Now, he's taking back the title.

Per a video from First We Feast, Pepper X destroys the competition at around 3.18 Scoville units, although that number has yet to be officially confirmed as a world record. (That will probably happen in November, according to Currie.)

The pepper is also too dangerous to consume on its own, so it won't be sold in its hottest form. (Remember, even the Dragon's Breath is potentially deadly.) You can, however, try it in a new hot sauce called The Last Dab, created in conjunction with the First We Feast series "Hot Ones."

Well, as soon as it restocks. Turns out everyone else wants to set their digestive system on fire, too.
