Xiaomi advertises its first Android One phone as 'similar to iPhone'

Well, it's not untrue.

OK, this is pretty funny. Xiaomi was never shy in pointing out its phones' similarities or advantages over Apple products, but now it's taken a very direct route.

The company's latest phone, the Xiaomi Mi A1, was launched at an event in India on Tuesday. It's the company's first Android One device, meaning it'll run stock Android software, without any modifications.

But check out how Xiaomi is advertising the Mi A1 on Twitter.

Yeah, it really is quite similar to the iPhone 7 Plus, and Xiaomi's the first to point it out. It's not just the physical similarities: The device has a dual 12-megapixel camera, with one regular and one telephoto lens, offering a 2x optical zoom -- just like the iPhone 7 Plus.

The Mi A1 also has the same screen size as the iPhone 7 Plus -- 5.5 inches. The rest of the specs are mid-rangey, and include a Snapdragon 625 processor, 4GB of RAM, a 3,080mAh battery, a metallic body, and a fingerprint sensor.

All of that will cost just $235, meaning you could buy three of those instead of one iPhone 7 Plus. Feeling tempted yet?

The Mi A1 will be launched in 40 countries worldwide, including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Russia, Mexico, Chile, Israel, and UAE. See the full list below.

Xiaomi is scheduled to launch its new flagship on Sept. 11, one day before Apple's big iPhone launch next week. The Mi Mix 2 will likely have minimal bezels on the front, just like its predecessor, and will probably cost a fair deal less than Apple's new flagships.
