A French teenager has reportedly live streamed her death by suicide on Periscope in the suburbs of Paris, leading to an investigation by French prosecutors.

The 19-year-old woman threw herself under a train in Evry, a commune in the Essonne region 20km from Paris, police said. Eric Lallement, the local prosecutor, said in a statement released to Mashable that an investigation had been opened.

French media reported that the woman live streamed her death on Periscope, to more than a thousand viewers.

The young woman allegedly sent an SMS to "one of her close relations" several minutes before her death to inform them of her intentions, Lallement said. “Then, she allegedly made declarations to Internet users, via the app Periscope, to explain her act," he added.

The video is no longer available on Periscope, which is owned by Twitter, but extracts appeared on YouTube, with the suicide part blacked out.

"This video is not to make buzz. it is made to make people react, to open the minds, and nothing more in fact," she soberly said.

Comments on the video included "We're waiting", "LOL", "This amuses me", "You're possessed", "Always a pleasure to see you" and "Give us a hint"

After a while, the screen is blacked out and there is no noise. A few minutes later, an emergency worker can be seen saying: "I am under the train with the victim".

Twitter spokesman Ian Plunkett told Mashable: "We do not comment on individual accounts for privacy and security reasons."

Last month a teenager was accused of live streaming her friend's rape on Periscope in the U.S.

Marina Lonina, 18, was accused of pointing her phone and streaming a live video while her friend was raped by Raymond Gates, 29.

Both have been charged with kidnapping, rape, sexual battery and pandering sexual matter involving a minor, The New York Times reported.
