YouTube's child-friendly version has come to Asia, starting with Malaysia and the Philippines.

YouTube Kids is a standalone app, which offers kid-friendly content that has been pre-screened by YouTube staff, so you don't have to keep looking over your child's shoulder when they're watching videos.

The app also offers parental controls such as a timer to restrict how long kids can spend on YouTube, locked search, and a passcode code so your toddler can't change the settings easily.

On Wednesday, YouTube announced that Malaysia and the Philippines are the first two countries in the region to get the free app for iOS and Android phones and tablets.

YouTube Kids is available on larger screens via smart TV apps or devices like the Chromecast and Apple TV.

Google had already made it available in 21 other countries globally, and there are plans to bring YouTube Kids to more countries in Asia in the coming months.
