YouTube is testing a flatter website design with less text, more images
YouTube is testing a new design for its website.
The new design, first posted on Reddit, is accessible through the site's developer controls. It shows a new interface designed with Google's Material design language. Material Design is the UI Google uses on Android. It emphasizes visuals and icons over text and wordy menus.

Mashable tried it and we like the new design. As you can see in the screenshots below, the design is cleaner and uses more negative space and gives channels a nice splash of color.
Reddit user giorgiomarinel has posted instructions on how to turn on the Material Design on Chrome:
1) go to https:
2) open the developer tools (ctrl + shift + i)
3) go to the `Resources´ tab and delete the VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie for the youtube domain
4) go to the console and define the VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie using the following command:
document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=Qa1hUZu3gtk;path=/;domain=.youtube.com";
5) reload the page
You can also reuse your VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE cookie.
If it's not working while logged into Chrome, try it in incognito mode (private browsing mode). It worked for us.
And here are the two designs at full resolution so you can see the changes more clearly.
