Samsung will announce its Galaxy S20 on February 11, and that phone will almost surely have Qualcomm's new, Snapdragon 865 chip on board.

But China's ZTE has stolen a tiny bit of Samsung's thunder by announcing a smartphone with a Snapdragon 865 a few days earlier (via Android Authority).

The phone is called the ZTE Axon 10s Pro, and it's solid but not stellar in terms of other specs; in fact it's quite reminiscent of last year's Axon 10 Pro. It has a curvy, 6.47-inch AMOLED display with a 2,340x1080 resolution, a 48/20/12-megapixel rear camera, a 20-megapixel selfie camera, 6/12GB of fast, LPDDR5 RAM and 128/256GB of storage.

The screen's got a waterdrop notch in the middle (no fancy 3D scanning here, though face recognition is present) and an in-display fingerprint sensor. Other highlights include stereo speakers, a 4,000mAh battery, and ZTE's MiFavor10 software paired with Android 9 Pie.

But the Snapdragon 865 does make the phone interesting. It gives it 5G and likely makes it one of the fastest smartphones currently on the market.

ZTE's bragging rights of having the first Snapdragon 865 phone are only on paper, though, because neither the price nor the release date for the Axon 10s Pro have been announced.

And while ZTE recently said it's cancelling its press conference at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona later this month, the company later confirmed it will have a presence at the show, showcasing new 5G devices. Perhaps the Axon 10s Pro will be one of them.
