Facebook

Ah, Facebook. Everyone's heard of Facebook! Founded in 2004 by then-Harvard student Mark Zuckerberg as a way to rank fellow college students, Facebook would quickly become the largest social network on the planet and amass billions of users. The platform's popularity was bolstered by users looking to reconnect with old friends and connect with loved ones around the world. But, of course, that's not where the story ends and the rest, well, isn't so positive sounding for Facebook. The 2010 Hollywood drama, The Social Network, about Facebook's tumultuous early startup days, 2018's Cambridge Analytica data scandal, the company's ongoing role in spreading far-right extremism and conspiracy theories. Facebook, and its parent company Meta, remains a behemoth in the online space (even if the stigma is that it's mostly used by your parents and grandparents now). And who knows what its future holds with the Metaverse?
