Prime events are Amazon's favorite excuse to discount its own devices, so expect no shortage of spicy smart home deals during Prime Day on July 11 and 12.

We saw a bunch of early record-low prices on Amazon's Echo Show devices (including the brand-new Echo Show 5), Alexa-enabled smart speakers, and Blink security equipment in the days leading up to the event. And now that the sale has officially begun, even more smart home gadgets have joined in the fray from brands like Google, Philips Hue, Govee, Arlo, and Belkin.

It may not have as many features as the regular Echo, but the Echo Dot (5th gen) still gives you a lot of bang for your buck. You can play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from your favorite streaming platform, ask Alexa to give you weather updates, set timers, answer your questions, tell you jokes, and more, and even control compatible smart home devices with your voice. The Echo Dot can also communicate with other Echo devices to form a complete smart home system. It's usually $50, but it's on sale for $22.99 ahead of Prime Day — that's 54% in savings and $2 less than its previous all-time low price.

Why we like it

The 3rd gen Echo Show 5 was just released in 2023 and is seeing its first discount ahead of Prime Day — and it's a doozy. Usually priced at $90, Amazon has it on sale for just $44.99 — that's 50% in savings. The new Echo Show 5 boasts improved audio with greater voice clarity, an extra mic for better Alexa responsiveness, a faster processor, a more compact design, and an improved screen that makes nighttime viewing more comfortable.
