Calling all horror fanatics: Do you miss telling ghost stories at childhood sleepovers or summer camp? Because same.

Though you can stream scary movies or shows, nothing quite compares to hearing the story in an eerie voice and letting your brain come up with creepy-crawly imagery.

If Halloween is your time to shine but sexy cop costumes aren't your thing, you can still satisfy your spooky cravings with this list of the scariest audiobooks out there. More convenient than a movie and more exciting than the radio, these ghastly tales are guaranteed to send chills down your spine.

Just because you can't see what's going on doesn't make it any less scary actually, it might make it worse.

Listen and you'll float too

Stephen King's IT has been all anyone can talk about since the movie got a reboot. IT's audiobook descriptions make the imagery just as vivid as on the big screen, so even if you haven't made your way to the theatre yet or if you've seen or read IT ten times, you're sure to get sucked into the 44-hour nightmare.

The aftermath of REDЯUM

If you didn't know Stephen King wrote a sequel to The Shining, it's about time. This chilling story follows a grown-up Danny, now known as Doctor Sleep, and his battle with ghosts from the famous Overlook Hotel who feast on tortured children that have "the shining" power. The creepy twins aren't back, but something scarier is.

Not your average 'possessed little girl' story

Dare to dive into Night Chill, a tale that puts an impressive twist on the classic supernatural possession thriller. Beware of listening to this on your commute to work — you're going to want to keep listening instead of getting off at your stop.

A Halloween classic

We couldn't make a list of scary audiobooks without one about a haunted house, so we made sure to choose an icon. Written by Shirley Jackson, a celebrated horror novelist who influenced writers like Neil Gaiman and Stephen King, The Haunting of Hill House is a 20th century ghost story sure to give you goosebumps. Give it a listen and get familiar with the story, just in time for the much anticipated Netflix adaptation.

'I see dead people' takes on a new meaning

A father seeing his five-year-old son's ghost in the house? Yeah, this is definitely on the list for a reason. Follow Alex, the morbid tale of a father's battle with the grief of losing a child and being haunted in the aftermath. Tears (and fears) are likely.

For 'based on a true story' lovers

If seeing "based on a true story" before a movie gets your blood circulating, this collection is right up your ally. Creepy Stories is a compilation covering famous incidents in truly demented houses in Ireland, Germany, Italy, and America. Prepare to be hooked.

Play them to spice up your commute to work or as chilling background noise to amp up a Halloween party's scare factor.

Remember, Halloween is forever.
