Simply being alive right now requires almost everyone to have access to a laptop for one reason or another. What isn't a necessity, though, is paying MacBook-esque prices for one — especially during Cyber Week season.
When 1 TB of storage, a desktop-level processor, or a zippy gaming-specific graphics card simply aren't specs you'd take advantage of daily, you should definitely look into a Chromebook. Despite generally being in the lower price range, the good ones have sufficient specs for simple multitasking, and the premium ones introduce fancier features like Intel processors, touchscreens, and 360-degree hinges.
With a Chromebook, almost everything you do is automatically backed up on Google Drive, so you won't lose your files if your Chromebook breaks — a nice cushion for elementary and middle school students who haven't developed frequent saving as a reflex yet. This backup system, as well as the fact that Chrome is less frequently targeted by malware than Apple or PC devices, makes them the perfect device for paranoid internet users of any age.
