Look, telling time on an analog clock is hard. We're all digital now, and the skill of reading clocks is one that we're totally fine letting die. Still, there's something quaint about saying, "it's half past two" that precise digital clocks aren't built for.

This text-based clock is a weird, cool middle ground between analog and digital. The words on the face light up to form a sentence that tells you the time in verbal terms. The bright LED lights spell out the approximate time so it feels much more human than a digital display.

The words clock is definitely a conversation piece, but its uses can also be more aspirational than aesthetic. For those of us who don't like being constantly tied to the precise time, it's a symbol of independence from concrete numbers. The five minute time intervals may help ensure that you'll slow down and focus on experiences instead of counting down the seconds to your next meeting. You can give yourself until the clock changes to brainstorm for a project, answer emails or check Facebook.

Of course, if you're dyslexic or just have a hard time with busy spaces, this clock may be your worst nightmare. It's definitely a love-it-or-hate-it piece. If you love it, you can pick it up on Amazon now for $89.98. If you hate it, get it for your most annoying family member for Christmas or Hanukkah.
