FREEBIE ALERT: As of March 17, you'll get a free Turtle Beach Recon 70 headset (worth $39.99) when you buy a copy of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Ragnarök Edition ($99.99) from Best Buy.

Between Elden Ring, Horizon Forbidden West, and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, fans of open-world games definitely aren't hurting for something new to sink some hours into at the moment.

But hear us out: If you haven't yet played through Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, now is actually the perfect time. The 2020 Viking epic's huge Dawn of Ragnarök expansion dropped earlier this month, adding about 40 hours of gameplay to an excellent (and already-massive) action-adventure title.

You can bundle the DLC ($39.99) with a copy of the base game ($59.99) as part of Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Ragnarök Edition, which retails for $99.99. We haven't found it on sale just yet — it's still pretty new — though you do get a free Turtle Beach Recon 70 worth $39.99 if you order it from Best Buy. (We'll take it.)

The headset is automatically added to your order once you add the game itself to your cart, so no need to remember any special coupons or promo codes. Best Buy also matches the headset to the version of the game you buy, so the Xbox Series X/Series S/One edition edition comes with an Xbox-compatible Recon 70 and the PlayStation 4/5 edition comes with a PlayStation-compatible Recon 70. Easy peasy.

For the uninitiated, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla stars a 9th-century Viking named Eivor, whose choices (and gender, in a franchise first) are completely up to the player. Mashable entertainment reporter Alexis Nedd was a big fan of its blend of classic stealth and "shiny new tricks," like secret treasure hoards and random World Events, deeming it "the best Assassin's Creed game of this era." (You can read her full review here.)

Dawn of Ragnarök, meanwhile, is billed as "the most ambitious expansion in franchise history," introducing new questlines, abilities, enemies, and realms as your protagonist settles into their fate as a Norse god. Skål to that.
