Fully funded on Kickstarter, this music player is going to change your Spotify streaming experience forever
Once in a blue moon, a new product will appear on Kickstarter that makes the entire internet collectively exclaim, "I NEED THAT." Back in 2015, it was a strategic card game involving exploding kittens, laser beams, and enchanted enchiladas. In 2016, it was a tongue-shaped silicone brush that allowed cat owners to groom their felines the natural (?) way. While this year's up-and-coming item isn't cat-themed, it's still one you'll want to get your paws on immediately.
Meet the Mighty, the first on-the-go Spotify music player that doesn't need a smartphone, an internet connection, or even cell reception to stream your favorite tunes.
According to its page on the crowdfunding site, the Mighty is the brainchild of a team that was flat-out fed up with their mobile music experiences.
"Every current option for streaming Spotify music on-the-go requires a smartphone. That makes no sense to us," they wrote. "Smartphones are heavy, hard to carry during exercise, have a short battery life, come with expensive data plans, and have fragile and expensive screens."
"To make it even worse," they added, "streaming services are documented as the most battery hungry apps in the world and can quickly drain your battery in just a few hours."
Mighty's unique listening experience seeks to eliminate all those physical distractions with a clip-on, waterproof, and drop-resistant design that can withstand the elements so you can take it on all sorts of adventures. Plus, five hours of battery life per charge frees you from the need to tote a cord with you constantly.
On the technological side, the Mighty syncs wirelessly (i.e. easily) to your Spotify collection and features 8GB of storage that can save more than 1,000 songs across multiple playlists, including those on your Spotify Premium account. Guided by its VoiceOver feature, you'll use the Mighty's Playlist selector button to swipe through your workout, dance, and study playlists without even looking at your device. (While Shuffle functionality is currently unavailable on the Mighty, a brand new software update will add it and other nifty features to your device in mid-October.)
