PREORDER: Sony is coming out with three new galaxy-inspired colors for the PlayStation 5's DualSense wireless controller in January 2022. As of Dec. 20, you could reserve the Nova Pink and Starlight Blue ones through Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop for $74.99 apiece.

If you've been lucky enough to track down a PlayStation 5 amid the chip shortage chaos (or remain hopeful that the supply chain gods will one day smile upon you, too), Sony's got a little year-end treat for you: three new DualSense wireless controller colors.

The gaming giant has announced that its galaxy-inspired family of PS5 accessories will gain Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple offerings in January 2022; they'll join the Midnight Black and Cosmic Red DualSense controllers that came out in June and will match some new PS5 console covers that Sony's introducing sometime in the first half of the year.

The black and red ones have been fairly tricky to find over the past few months, so savvy shoppers should consider reserving one of the new colors ahead of their official drop. Conveniently, Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop were all taking preorders for the Nova Pink and Starlight Blue ones at the time of writing. (The purple version doesn't appear to be listed anywhere yet, but we'll keep you posted if/when that changes.)

FWIW, these are merely aesthetic upgrades to the standard DualSense controller, which is arguably the best gamepad Sony's ever made. (The tech gurus over at PCMag, which is owned by Mashable's publisher ZiffDavis, went so far as to call it "revolutionary.") While the button and stick layout will feel familiar to anyone who's booted up a PlayStation before, its haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, and convenient "create" button for sharing highlights make for a true next-gen gaming experience.

As far as shipping dates go, it looks like GameStop can get one to you the fastest: It was listing a release date of Jan. 14 the last time we checked, while Best Buy, Amazon, and Walmart had the controllers slated for drops on Jan. 22, Jan. 28, and Feb. 3, respectively. (Meanwhile at Target, their release dates are mysteriously still "coming soon.")
