Socks. Just what you wanted, right? *eye roll*

The disappointment of receiving socks as a gift is universal — no matter how old you are or where you're from, some relative always ends up giving out socks. And they're usually so, so lame.

We wanted to challenge that stereotype and stand up for what we believe in: Socks aren't always a lame gift, okay? Check out this list of cool socks that you'd actually want to receive this holiday season.

For the person whose second home is a museum

Help your artsy friend display their favorite paintings in the most stylish way possible with Hot Sox: The Artist Series. Available in a wide variety of iconic paintings, designs include The Mona Lisa, Starry Night, The Scream, and The Birth of Venus, so it shouldn't be hard to find a pair to go with any outfit.

And for the artist

Sometimes, socks just don't come in the colors you need. Take the design process into your own hands with these color-in socks. The designs come in mandala, floral, cats, dogs, and lots of other patterns — check the selection out here. Your friend will be thrilled to know that no one in the world has an identical pair of socks.

For the person who is always cold

Everyone has that one friend who is always cold, but we can all agree that a pair of thick socks still doesn't cut it during a severe winter. These rechargeable heated socks are the perfect way to keep your Secret Santa's feet toasty, without having to layer five pairs of socks.

And for the person who is always hot

While finding the cold spot in the bedsheets with your feet is a must before falling asleep, these chilling socks go above and beyond. Using ice inserts, these socks cool your feet down quickly and are ideal for foot pain or swelling relief due to a chronic condition or just from standing all day.

For the person whose bloodstream is 99% cheese

Got a friend who loves pizza? (Is that even a question?) These multi-flavored pizza socks come arranged in a pizza box, and are impressively detailed for socks — they might start to look tasty if you're hungry enough. (Find more flavors here.)

For the person who constantly has the munchies

Speaking of food: If you've got a friend who is constantly hungry (even though they just ate ten minutes ago), these glow-in-the-dark pizza and fries socks are the perfect way for them to showcase their passion — and help them find lost socks in a dark room. More glow in the dark socks are also available in designs featuring money bags, stars, rainbow skulls, and a ton more.

Or perhaps these hyper realistic burger socks would make a good gift for a foodie — these will look dashing sticking out of a shoe, and seriously drool-worthy. (Warning: They do not taste good.)

For the DC Comics obsessive

If you've got a pal who has every Batman movie memorized, these Batman knee socks complete with their own little capes make a great gift. The caped socks also come in Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash (with wings) or Captain America, if they're more of a Marvel fan.

For the Rick and Morty fan

If you haven't noticed yet, Rick and Morty fans are a little wacky. These socks will allow them to discreetly showcase their obsession with the show and they'll be forever grateful for that.

For the person who constantly wants sushi

These socks really look like you're putting raw fish on your feet, and it's awesome. Choose from egg, masuzushi, octopus, red caviar, salmon, shrimp, tuna, or get the sushi sock platter with all seven — you never know which flavor will match the outfit best.

For the Halloween lover, or the scientist, or the doctor

Whether your friend is obsessed with Halloween, loves biology, or sees X-Rays at their job on a daily basis, these spooky and impressively realistic X-Ray socks from Urban Outfitters' UK store will make the recipient happy. (Don't worry though — they'll ship to the US.)

For the person who has seen Bob's Burgers 100 times

You can't look at these socks without hearing Tina's "Uh..." groan in your head, and that's what we love about them. Besides, who wouldn't want socks that say "butts" on them?

For the person who loses everything

Sometimes, you just can't trust pants pockets to hold your valuables in place. If you've got a friend who is constantly losing their credit card or money, perhaps a pair of socks with a reliable zipper compartment could be of service. Safe and stealthy — a win win.
