The internet is a beautiful thing — but it can also be increasingly dangerous. That’s why web-savvy folks use VPNs to protect themselves online. For the uninitiated, VPN stands for virtual private network. A VPN reroutes your internet traffic through its own servers around the world, and encrypts it along the way—hiding your internet activity from anyone who might want to see it, including your internet service provider, governments, and hackers. If the internet is like a public highway, a VPN is like your own personal tunnel that goes to the same places, just without anyone seeing you. If you're new to the VPN game, ZenMate Premium could be a good place to start.

Used by some 41 million people, ZenMate is one of the simplest VPNs out there. You just download it the way you would any program for you platform of choice — it works with Windows, MacOS, iOS, or Android. A little window pops up to let you know you’re in, a drop-down menu lets you pick a server in one of more than 30 countries, and you’re off.

For those looking for something a bit more sophisticated, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. But if you're just getting started, or curious to learn more about VPNs, then ZenMate could be a good starting point.

While the goal is privacy, VPNs come with an added perk: bypassing geo-location restrictions on downloading content (ie: you should be able to get all those episodes of The Great British Bake Off that haven’t made it to America yet).

Normally this top-tier VPN subscription would cost $215, but right now you can get two years of ZenMate for $89.99. Get it here.
