Massive Verizon outage live updates: Network down for millions nationwide

Updated at 9:23 am ET October 3, 2024

Verizon appears to be facing a massive outage, affecting customers across the U.S.

On Monday, Sept. 30, many Verizon users found that their smartphones are stuck in SOS mode. This means that their device does not have cellular service and can only make emergency service calls.

DownDetector, which shares the same parent company as Mashable, has received hundreds of thousands of reports of service outages from Verizon users. It's unclear what is causing the issue at this time.

Mashable will keep readers updated via this live blog.
