UPDATE: Feb. 27, 2026, 5:00 a.m. EST New robot vacuums from Roborock, Dreame, and Narwal were all announced at CES 2026. I'm in the process of testing them at home and will update this guide accordingly as each is officially released.

Automated upkeep of shedding is something no seasoned pet owner would turn down. While the humble lint roller is still the most reliable line of defense for furniture and black clothes, the best robot vacuums for pet hair can keep your carpets, rugs, tile, and hardwood floors barefoot-ready on a daily basis.

It's hard to envision how well a robotic vacuum cleaner could possibly work on a dense layer of pet hair until you've witnessed it in real time. Well, I have — I test new top robot vacuums at home every month, and my cats hold nothing back when preparing the testing grounds. With new robot vacuums from CES now in the mix, I've narrowed down my top recommendations for the best robot vacuum for pet hair in early 2026.

Though most of the conversation around pet hair pickup will involve how well that robot vacuum performs on carpet, pets don't stop shedding when they cross over to a hardwood or tiled floor. If your home has a pretty even split of both types of flooring, you should eye one of the best robot vacuum and mop combos for pet hair on hard floors. Strong suction power alone isn't always guaranteed to pull up every tiny strand of fur (especially fur that has blown into the corners of the room), and fine dust like pet dander and kitty litter is stubborn to be sucked up as well. In that case, a wet mopping pad using pressure to wipe is much less likely to leave finer debris behind.

Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete

Best robot vacuum for pet hair on carpet

The Good & The Bad

  • Can already be found on sale
  • Record 35,000 Pa suction power excels on carpet
  • Also great for pet hair on hard floors
  • Ultra slim
  • Max suction setting and auto-emptying are pretty quiet
  • Hinged spinning pads mop corners and edges closely
  • Mops with 104 degree Fahrenheit water to break down stains
  • Auto-dispenses two types of detergent
  • Livestream pet camera
  • Struggles with debris near rug edges
  • Heavily advertised threshold scaling is still pretty limited
  • Phone charger avoidance isn't 100% perfect

Our review

Read my initial review of the Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete.

Who it's for

The Dreame X60 Ultra Max Complete is a beast of a robot vacuum for homes with multiple pets who shed a lot. Between market-leading suction power and pressurized spinning mopping pads that scrub closely in corners, this would be the most reliable robot vac in homes with plush carpet, lots of floor type changes, and the expectation of literal wall-to-wall cleaning.

Why we picked this

The Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete currently holds the title of "highest suction power in a robot vacuum" with 35,000 Pa. That surpasses the most powerful Roborock vacuums by 8,000 Pa and more than doubles the suction of the most powerful Roomba. (This will be a different conversation when the new Roborock Saros 20 vacuums release later this year.)

I've put that groundbreaking number to the test on a variety of rug piles at home, and the X60 Max Ultra Complete delivered consistently. Hair from my two tortoiseshell cats camouflages on patterned rugs, so a lint roller test is one straightforward way to double-check a robot vacuum's pet hair pickup. The sticky paper revealed just one or two cat hairs left over on any patch of my tufted living room rug. The X60 also had a perfect pickup rate on my thickest rug, where I mushed clumps of fur from the cat tree down into the fluffy fibers. The noise level is much less of a jump scare than you'd expect for max power mode.

Though I've dubbed it the carpet expert, the X60 Max Ultra Complete's detailed mopping would play a major role in keeping hard floors in your kitchen and bathroom pet hair dander-free. It has double rotating pads, including one hinged pad that swivels out to scrub in 90-degree angles and along wall edges. I've consistently found that this design provides the most meticulous upkeep of those balls of fur that inevitably blow into the corners of my apartment. Detergent automatically dispenses into the clean water tank every time, and Dreame includes two: a regular sanitizing solution and a pet odor solution.

Our review

Read my initial review of the Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow.

Who it's for

The new Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow is a heavy-duty roller mop robot vacuum that provides thorough pet hair pickup on hardwood and tile floors. It's also a strong performer on large liquid splatters or thick dried-on stains, making it a great overall choice for multi-pet households that are prone to spills or pet waste on the floor.

The Curv 2 Flow's impeccable small obstacle avoidance is also the least likely to run over pet toys scattered on the floor — a key feature for busy folks who don't always have time to tidy up beforehand.

Why we picked this

Shedding is hardly strictly a carpet issue — pet hair still accumulates on hard floors, and I've really been enjoying the Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow's sturdy mopping on my hardwood kitchen floor and tile bathroom floor.

The Curv 2 Flow's large paint roller-style mop is great at wiping up minuscule physical debris that tends to stick to hard floors, like ultra-fine hairs, dander, and dusty paw prints by the litter box. All the proof I need comes from the lasers on my Dyson PencilVac, which highlight any and all specks that I wouldn't be able to see with a casual glance — and the Curv 2 Flow leaves high-traffic areas spotless. While I still think that flexible spinning pads (like the Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete's) are slightly more precise in corners, Roborock has nailed roller mop edge mopping in a way other roller mops haven't yet.

Roller mops also take a more absorbent, more hygienic approach than a flat mop pad or dual rotating mops, which comes into play for pet-related cleaning past hair pickup. The Curv 2 Flow has excelled at sopping up large liquid spills on my hardwood kitchen floor, including small chunks of wet pet food. Instead of streaking the splatter across the floor as it continues to mop, the Aqua10 Ultra Roller mop rinses itself in real time — a tidbit I found comforting when sending the Qrevo Curv 2 Flow to mop up runny cat puke.

Past cleaning performance, this Roborock is just a solid robot vacuum for homes with pets in general. Its small obstacle avoidance might just be the most accurate I've ever tried — I've had no run-ins with cords, pet food bowls, cat toys, or (fake) pet waste. The livestream pet camera is always appreciated, too.

Eufy E20 robot vacuum cleaning hardwood floor near rug and dresser

Eufy E20 3-in-1

Best if you also want a stick vacuum

The Good & The Bad

  • Frequently on sale for under $400
  • Shockingly affordable for a robot and stick vacuum combo
  • Suction power of both vacuums is powerful for the price
  • 75 day self-empty dust capacity
  • Room by room smart mapping is quite accurate
  • Dock is very compact
  • Doesn't mop
  • A bit loud
  • Exposed motor isn't the most aesthetically appealing design

Our review

Read my review of the Eufy E20 3-in-1.

Who it's for

The Eufy E20 3-in-1 is an awesome find for people who can't choose between getting a robot vacuum or a cordless stick vacuum — because it's both. This convertible robot vac is a great way to maximize a tight storage situation, consolidating the automation of a robot vacuum and the handheld freedom to clean windowsills, furniture, and car seats.

Though the Eufy E20 covers three different types of vacuuming, it doesn't cover mopping at all. The ideal home environment would be mostly carpeting or rugs, where you wouldn't use a robot mop a ton, anyway.

Why we picked this

The entire pro-letting-your-dog-on-the-furniture crowd knows that couches, beds, and car seats get just as covered in hair as the floor. (Cat parents don't really have a choice — the furniture will be furry.) For such cases, Eufy saw that many folks' dream vacuum setup would actually be to have both a robot vacuum and a cordless stick vacuum. Thus, the E20 3-in-1 was born. It's a smart mapping robot vacuum that uses the handled piece of a cordless vacuum as the motor. To switch between them, you can pull the motor out of the robot vacuum body and click it onto the stick vacuum or handheld vacuum attachment.

The Eufy E20 excels as a shedding sidekick because of the variety of pet hair-covered surfaces it can clean — not because it's the most powerful robot vacuum I've tested or anything. The robot vacuum's 8,000 Pa of suction power is satisfactory for visible crumbs, kitty litter, and hair, fur, or fuzzies that haven't yet formed a cast on the carpet. For the more stubborn pet hair and better corner cleaning, you can simply whip out the cordless stick vacuum attachment. That bumps suction power to 30,000 Pa, which is stronger than any other robot vacuum in this list.

I had zero complaints about the Eufy E20's mapping capabilities. It created a highly accurate map of my bedrooms and bathrooms on the first try, and the app's color-coded map is much more intuitive than the in-app maps for other budget-friendly robot vacuums.

3i robot vacuum cleaning rug near green couch

3i G10+

Best budget robot vacuum for pet hair

The Good & The Bad

  • Occasionally on sale for under $400
  • 18,000 Pa suction power is wicked at any price point
  • Deals with dust for 60+ days without an auto-empty dock
  • Can be stored under furniture
  • Reliable smart mapping and small obstacle avoidance
  • Live stream pet camera is so rare at this price
  • Physical design looks outdated and clunky
  • Mopping is pretty basic

Our review

Read our review of the 3i G10+.

Who it's for

The 3i G10+ is a genius space-saving hack for pet owners who live in apartments — its ability to "self-empty" (compress debris) without a self-emptying dock means it can be stored under furniture. With small obstacle avoidance, a livestream pet camera, and market-leading suction power for its price range, the G10+ is also the most robust robot vacuum that a budget shopper will find.

Why we picked this

This niche robot vacuum from 3i is easily the most powerful robot vacuum under $500 that I've ever come across. Its 18,500 Pa of suction power runs circles around other budget robot vacuums and rivals the suction power of several flagship vacuums that are double (or even triple) its price. This'll boost the volume of pet hair that's sucked up, which will all get compressed inside the vacuum body instead of emptying into a larger self-emptying dock. This takes care of dustbin duty for you for at least two months at a time.

The dust compression feature is definitely unique, but the 3i G10+'s navigational IQ is what impressed me the most about this cheap robot vacuum. Its initial mapping run of my apartment was highly accurate, down to deciphering between beds, credenzas, and even toilets. It even recognized each spot where there's a rug.

The presence of small obstacle avoidance is also impressive at such a practical price point. Pet owners who are concerned about run-ins with pet waste won't want to skip this technology — the G10+ successfully dodged my pet waste dupe (brown sugar) as well as an extension cord and socks. Did I mention the livestream pet camera? You almost never see that feature for less than $1,000 otherwise.

The Good & The Bad

  • iRobot small obstacle avoidance is reliable
  • Most powerful robot vacuum without a mop
  • Mopping version is available, though
  • Dirt Detect works harder on dirtier areas
  • Suction power is extremely weak vs. competitors
  • Roomba self-emptying docks are notoriously loud

UPDATE: iRobot filed for bankruptcy on Dec. 15, and has been acquired by Roomba manufacturer Picea. While Roombas are still available to buy like usual, I would recommend deprioritizing a Roomba in your robot vacuum search. There are robot vacuums with better features at better prices out there, and with iRobot's rocky future now layered in, even the best Roomba vacuums aren't worth it.

Who it's for

A powerful vacuum-only robot vacuum for pet hair is a highly sought-after artifact on Reddit, but most high-end robot vacuums with strong suction are fancy robot vacuum and mop combos. iRobot is the only major brand with a vacuum option that targets pet owners who don't want to deal with musty mopping pads at all. Though the Roomba Max 705's suction power can't compete with other premium vacs on this list, the lack of water tanks could really appeal to folks who want to skip wet cleaning.

Why we picked this

The Roomba 705 Max has emerged as the most powerful Roomba to date, offering 170 times the suction power of the old base-tier 600 Series. That shakes out to 13,000 Pa of suction power, which isn't exactly revolutionary compared to the similarly-priced Roborocks and Dreames we've tested.

But the brush roll system is the real draw for pet owners: iRobot revived its dual rubber brush roll system. These lay parallel to each other and spin in opposite directions, excelling at pinching pet hair that's embedded into carpet. iRobot ditched this brush roll system with the rest of the 2025 Roombas, so I was psyched to see the return of this design after experiencing it with the Roomba Combo 10 Max.

While it may seem like a downgrade to some, many pet owners actually prefer their robot vacuum to not mop at all — it's sometimes easier not to fuss with tufts of fur sticking to the mopping pads or getting stuck in the tray. There is a mopping version of this model: The overpriced Roomba Max 705 Combo.

Recent changes to this guide

February 2025: The Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete takes over as the best robot vacuum for pet hair on carpet, replacing the Dreame Aqua10 Ultra Roller. The Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Flow takes over as the best robot vacuum for pet hair on hardwood, replacing the Roborock Saros 10R.

September 2025: I added the Dreame Aqua10 Ultra Roller as the best robot vacuum for pet hair on carpet and shifted the Roborock Saros 10R (previously named the best robot vacuum overall) to the best robot vacuum for pet hair on hard floors.

July 2025: I removed the Shark Matrix RV2300S robot vacuum from this guide. While it was a solid budget mopping robot vacuum for its first year or so on the market, it's now a little bit too basic compared to other newer budget robot vacuums.

June 2025: I replaced the Shark Matrix RV2300S with the 3i G10+ as the best budget robot vacuum for pet hair. While the Shark was a solid budget cleaner when it first came out, its suction power isn't nearly as strong as the 18,500 Pa of the 3i G10+. The 3i G10+ also has small obstacle avoidance and a pet camera.

New robot vacuums announced at CES 2026

Several top robot vacuum brands unveiled new flagship models at CES in early January. These include the Roborock Saros 20 Sonic and Qrevo Curv 2 Flow, the Dreame X60 Max Ultra Complete, and the Narwal Flow 2. I'm in the process of testing these at home and will update this guide accordingly as each are officially released to the public.

Frequently Asked Questions

For the most part, no. The general consensus on the internet and in my experience, robot vacuums and pets can live together in harmony.

However, while no one *wants* their robot vacuum to be loud, but noise level should be a heavier consideration in households with skittish pets. The 10-second roar made by self-emptying docks can be extremely jarring — Roombas have the loudest auto-emptying I've ever heard, and I can see that freaking out a pet with sensitive hearing.

As of early 2026, the most powerful robot vacuum has 35,000 Pa of suction power, followed by a few other premium models in the 18,000 Pa to 30,000 Pa range. If you're not really eyeing the expensive high-end models, more budget-friendly suction power between 8,000 Pa and 12,000 Pa can still be highly effective on light shedding. Any robot vacuum with 5,000 Pa suction power or less will probably be more frustrating than helpful.

How we tested

As a senior shopping reporter, I have been testing popular robot vacuums for Mashable in the various apartments I've lived in since 2019 — most recently, a three-bedroom apartment where three people and two cats reside.

Over the course of at least four weeks, each robot vacuum is put through a series of standardized tests that I’ve laid out to exemplify all factors of trusting a robot vacuum in your home on a daily basis. In addition to overall bang for your buck, those tests cover four main pillars of robot vacuum competence:

Cleaning abilities

Each vacuum tackles various spills, debris, levels of pet hair, and floor types. I also tested hybrid vacuum and mop combo models on various stains and spills.

Navigation

I keep tabs on navigational accuracy when it comes to smart mapping my home, finding specific rooms and zones, and identifying small obstacles using LiDAR or cameras.

User friendliness

Your new robot vacuum should be a polite houseguest. I make sure each vacuum isn't too loud, an eyesore, or generally a pain to use.

Maintenance

Many robot vacuums automate their own dust bin emptying, mopping pad washing, and more — the more self-sufficient they are, the better.
