'American Horror Story' Season 7 will be the scariest yet: The 2016 election

Remember how 2016 was basically a horror movie? Ryan Murphy is well aware, and he's zeroing in on one of its most terrifying chapters for American Horror Story: The U.S. Presidential Election.

In the latest episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Murphy revealed the new season's subject and teased the possibility of some orange-tinged casting.

"I don't have a title, but the season that we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through," said Murphy. "So I think that will be interesting for a lot of people."

Cohen was so shocked that he interrupted himself to ask if there would be a Trump character in the new season, to which Murphy said: "Maybe."

The season is promised to be "shrouded in mystery," so it's unlikely the writers will reveal how closely it follows the election -- or if it goes beyond, into Trump's actual presidency.

"AHS confronts our deepest fears with unmatched suspense and style," FX C.E.O. John Landgraf said in October, when the show was renewed for Season 7. In this case, those fears are our actual reality.

Mashable reached out to FX for further comment.
