What's gender got to do with murder? What about wealth, economics, immigrant status? It's all at play in the trailer for Alias Grace, based on Margaret Atwood's 1996 novel and the true story before it.
Alias Grace is a six-part miniseries about Grace Marks (Sarah Gadon), an Irish woman in Canada convicted of murdering her employers. In addition to a plot summary, Netflix included some context around Marks' historical significance:
Grace became one of the most enigmatic and notorious women of 1840s Canada for her supposed role in the sensational double murder, and was eventually exonerated after 30 years in jail. Her conviction was controversial, and sparked much debate about whether Grace was actually involved in the murder, or merely an unwitting accessory.
Alias Grace will air on CBC in Canada and stream globally on Netflix Nov. 3.
