If you've ever had a dream about Jeremy Strong calling Ronald Reagan a schmuck, you'll enjoy the start of this trailer.
But writer/director James Gray's drama Armageddon Time is more serious than that, examining Reagan-era racism in the '80s.
Set in New York, the film sees Anthony Hopkins, Anne Hathaway, and Strong leading the cast as family members Aaron, Esther, and Irving Graff. But the story is centered on the friendship between Esther and Irving's son Paul (Banks Repeta), who is white, and Johnny (Jaylin Webb), who is Black. As the trailer shows, the film promises a moving portrait of America, with personal tales of white privilege, generational tales of immigration, and systemic racism in the U.S.
The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and will open in limited release Oct. 28, then nationwide Nov. 11.
