"In 1989, the Guerilla Girls counted the number of women represented in The Met's modern art sections," notes Artists for Gender Equality. "Less than 5 percent of the artists were women and 85 percent of the nudes were female."

A project by art platform Artsy, supported by Gucci, the three-part video series breaks down gender inequality in the art world and how female artists disrupted this, let's call it, absolute bullshit.
The series is separated into past, present and future. The first video, "Past," features some art world heavyweights, including sculptor Barbara Zucker, co-founder of A.I.R. Gallery (the first artist-run gallery for women in the U.S.), alongside artist and activist Faith Ringgold, figurative painter Joan Semmel, early new media pioneer Lynn Hershman Leeson, and art advisor Todd Levin.
"Women make babies. Men make culture," said a scathing Semmel in the film. "Every woman had stories of being excluded," said Hershman Leeson, who made up three fake male critic reviews of her own work to be picked up by a gallery.
The next part, "Present," is due for release Nov. 20, featuring total boss Miranda July.
