2017 is shaping up to be the year of Charlize Theron, Action Star.

Following her deliciously devious turn in The Fate of the Furious, Theron will get to play the hero in Atomic Blonde, the new film by John Wick director (and future Deadpool 2 helmer) David Leitch. As you might expect from that pedigree, the Atomic Blonde trailer is all slick stunts and neon-drenched style.

Theron plays an MI6 agent sent to Berlin during the Cold War to investigate the death of a fellow operative. While she's done blockbuster action before – notably in Æon Flux and Mad Max: Fury Road – this could be her best showcase yet.

John Goodman and James McAvoy also show up, playing a couple of Theron's allies, and Star Trek Beyond's Sofia Boutella drops in to flirt and fight with our leading lady.

Atomic Blonde has its world premiere at the SXSW film festival next week. Those of us not in Austin will get our chance to see it when it hits U.S. theaters July 28.
