Deepfake of Bill Hader doing an impression of Tom Cruise will make your brain hurt

The sudden rise in the number and quality of deepfakes is concerning, but then there's this video.

A new clip from deepfake creator Ctrl Shift Face features Bill Hader on an old episode of The Late Show with David Letterman from 2008. But the video showcases the face-shifting technology a little differently than other popular deepfakes out there.

While discussing a table read of the 2008 flick Tropic Thunder, Hader brings up Tom Cruise, and his face seamlessly transforms to Cruise's. It's hardly noticeable at first, but as Hader continues the story and peppers it with impressions of Seth Rogen and Cruise, his faces switches to the different celebrities.

While sure, it's really entertaining, it's also pretty scary. The technology behind deepfakes continues to improve, and it's only a matter of time before it's used to spread harmful disinformation to the public.
