Tense 'Bombshell' trailer digs deeper into the Fox News scandal

Whereas Bombshell's initial trailer built suspense and left much to the imagination, today's release more explicitly teases the film's ripped-from-the-headlines story. In addition to reenactments of the toxic masculinity displayed on air, audiences can expect direct references to the controversies that unfolded between Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump.

Charlize Theron stars as Kelly, Nicole Kidman takes on Gretchen Carlson, and Margot Robbie's character, Kayla, is an amalgamation constructed from interviews with women who came forward against (now former) Fox News network head Roger Ailes (John Lithgow).

The film's creators recently revealed that their choice to fashion Robbie's character as a composite of unnamed primary sources was done so to protect the interviewees who violated non-disclosure agreements and ensure their continued anonymity.

Bombshell will be released in theaters on December 20.
