Before Luke Skywalker returns for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Mark Hamill will be taking a detour into Brigsby Bear.

The Sundance hit stars SNL's Kyle Mooney as James, a man-child obsessed with an old TV show from his youth. But it's not what you think.

James isn't just a typical geek nostalgic for old-school pop culture. His fixation on Brigsby Bear (the title of the movie is also the title of James's favorite show) stems from something far weirder, and far sadder.

We'll leave it to you to find out what it is – the premise of the movie might not be a spoiler, exactly, but it's probably still best discovered on your own. Suffice it to say this is less like The 40-Year-Old Virgin and more like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Need a little more convincing? Mashable's Ti Lovelace, who caught the film at Sundance, named it one of her favorites of the fest and described it as "a love letter to storytelling, to believing in heroes and to believing in good."

Brigsby Bear opens in select theaters July 28.
