You'd think filming a show like The Office would have been a relatively safe affair, but not so with the episode Bryan Cranston directed, "Work Bus," which was affectionately renamed "Death Bus" by the cast.

We've already heard in Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey's book, The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office from Two Best Friends Who Were There, that an air conditioning unit fitted too close to the bus' exhaust nearly wiped out the entire cast — and appearing on The Late Show on Monday, Bryan Cranston confirmed the story.

"Jenna Fischer actually saved everyone's life," Cranston explains in the clip above. "She said, 'I smell exhaust, it's coming inside the bus. And I'm saying, 'Jenna, I mean come on, that's not...How is that possible, it's not possible, we have air conditioning.' And she goes, 'No, it's coming in!'"

Cranston then re-enacts how he stood up on a chair and gave the air conditioning unit a good sniff, only to smell the tell-tale signs of exhaust fumes.

"I got nice and dizzy, then realised, oh my God, we could have all been dead," says Cranston. "It would have been one hell of an episode."
