For all her appearances in big-budget blockbusters like The Hobbit series and upcoming Thor: Ragnarok, Cate Blanchett seems to always have her feet dipped in the experimental art world.

The Australian actress is appearing in an upcoming surrealist short film called RED. The first film by artist Del Kathryn Barton, RED is "a savage tale of female power inspired by the mating rituals of the Australian red back spider." Epic.

"This brutal chronicle spoke to me of the poetics of female power as an inherent and indeed, elemental force in the universe. By intercutting human protagonists with extraordinary macro footage, RED has evolved into what I now consider to be an uncompromising celebration of female power," Barton said in a statement.

Is there anything Blanchett can't do?

RED will debut at the Art Gallery of South Australia as part of the Adelaide Festival in Jan. 2017.
