Stephen Colbert and his band leader Jon Batiste discussed the death of Prince on The Late Show Thursday night.

Colbert described memories of listening to the 57-year-old's first record on headphones at school, so the adults couldn't hear the lyrics.

"Not many people are influential enough to be known by one name, let alone by one color. But he was," Colbert said. In a gesture of respect, the Late Show set then changed from blue to purple.
