Stephen Colbert smashes Pence's Trump-MLK comparison with one quote

On Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday weekend, Vice President Mike Pence decided it was a great idea to steal a line from the civil rights legend's iconic "I Have a Dream" speech to draw comparisons to Donald Trump, and garner support for his $5.7 billion border wall.

Seriously.

"One of my favorite quotes from Doctor King was, "Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy.'" Pence said during an interview with Margaret Brennan on CBS' Face The Nation.

"You think of how he changed America. He inspired us to change through the legislative process to become a more perfect union. That's exactly what President Trump is calling on the Congress to do."

This frankly disgraceful comparison didn't get past The Late Show host Stephen Colbert, who slammed the comments on Monday, using another quote from MLK.

"MLK weighed in on border walls Mr. Vice President when he visited East Berlin," noted Colbert, "and said, 'For here on either side of the wall are God's children and no man-made barrier can obliterate that fact.'"
