Conan is finally coming to an end after a lengthy 11-year run, and what better way to go out than for host Conan O'Brien to just get high in the middle of the show?

Pondering what to do with his upcoming free time, O'Brien turned to guest Seth Rogen for ideas during Tuesday's episode. The actor is popularly known for starring in stoner comedies, and he recently launched a cannabis company in March, so his answer should have surprised nobody.

"I would suggest — this is going to be hilariously on-brand — try smoking a lotta weed for a long time," said Rogen, shortly before offering O'Brien a neatly rolled joint from his jacket pocket.

Clearly out of damns to give, usually "lucid" host Conan O'Brien lit up and enjoyed the "fine herb" to the cheers and chants of the audience, taking a drag before passing the doobie to Rogen and Andy Richter.

"This is the kind of thing you do when you know it's over for you," said O'Brien. "'Oh, what are they gonna do to me?'"

It does feel a bit off watching white celebrities happily share a joint on TV while across the U.S. thousands of people of colour remain incarcerated on marijuana charges. According to a 2020 report by the American Civil Liberties Union, police continue to arrest Black people for marijuana possession at 3.64 times the rate of white people, despite usage rates being similar across both groups.

Still, recreational marijuana use is legal in California where Conan is filmed, and it's nice to see O'Brien loosen up and enjoy a victory toke.

The final episode of Conan will air June 24 on TBS, after which the host is moving to a new show on HBO Max.

UPDATE: June 24, 2021, 4:03 p.m. AEST An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated O'Brien, Rogen, and Richter smoked a blunt. They actually smoked a joint. A blunt is a cigar that has been hollowed out and filled with marijuana, while a joint is a rolled marijuana cigarette.
