Watch the crowd's stunned reaction after Apple reveals its new monitor stand will cost $999

Early in May, Tim Cook was telling graduating students that "my generation has failed you." But at Apple's WWDC on Monday, it seemed like he took one look at our collective empty wallets and said "Hmm, better charge $1,000 for a stand for a $5,000 monitor."

When Apple revealed its latest Mac Pro at the conference, it was, unsurprisingly, incredibly expensive. But watch as the audience, full of developers and press alike, clap willingly when the computer's $5,999 price tag is flashed onscreen. And again, when the display is shown to cost another $4,999.

It seems like Apple pushed its luck just a little too far, though, because as soon as its shown that the monitor stand (and yes, just the monitor stand) costs a whopping $999, no one seemed pleased. The audience is shocked, and the price on screen drums up enough agitation that the presenter seems to rush just a little bit to get Tim Cook on stage.

Now we just have to wait and see if anyone is willing to pony up that price to have their monitor spin around like a windmill.
